Places stay the same. People change but memories last forever. This is how so many places around the world come into existence. Fresh and natural landscapes evolve, marking the dynamics of life. Houses and buildings are constructed one after another, marking the twists and turns of human culture. Photographs records all events as they are; honestly and openly. Through a photo, time seems to stop and a moment is made eternal. Exploring photos frame by frame is like treading tracks of time.

A fellow photographer had been consistently taking photos of Tugu Yogyakarta. The photos are taken consistently each year on the same date at approximately the same time and at the same angle. The series of photographs of this monument then tell stories about everything that the landmark historic city of Yogyakarta ever experienced.

Through photography, humans can also be motivated to travel, to visit many places in various parts of the world. From big cities such as Kuala Lumpur, Shanghai and San Francisco to places such as the exotic, natural landscapes of Mount Bromo in East Java to Machu Piccu in Peru. Every places represents a culture and symbolises a level of human civilization within a certain time. Photography records it and presents a lot of things in various dimensions. A picture speaks a thousand words and a thousand words deliver countless interpretation.

So rich is the meaning captured by a photo. While in fact, it is technically only the combination of aperture and shutter speed that catches light in a blink, it is the angle of the camera and ideas in the mind of the photographer that make a picture worth interpreting as something.

The camera and the lens are like a third eye of a photographer; the third eye that completes the photographer’s heartstrings as a human being. As well as being a representative for the million of pairs of viewers’ eyes who could not observe a moment directly.

Tempat tetap namun waktu berganti. Orang berubah tapi kenangan abadi.

Menjelajah foto bingkai demi bingkai bak menelusuri waktu.

Satu foto berbicara seribu kata. Dan seribu kata melahirkan berjuta interpretasi.

Demikian kaya sebuah foto menyimpan makna.
